The Spiritman Update can be read like a devotional. It follows the comics panel by panel mixed with commentary from the creators and a dose of scripture.

Spiritman Daily Dose 187

Are Martin and Chelsea getting serious? Chelsea is... only it's not that king of serious. I think she's actually about to punch Martin.
“For from their least even to their greatest, everyone is given to covetousness. From the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely. They have healed also the hurt of my people superficially, saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace."
Jeremiah 6:13-14 WMB

Wait... there is a mark on Chelsea's hand? Where did that come from? If you are new to following the story what you have missed is that a couple of bad guys chased down Chelsea and branded this mark on the back of her hand. Martin saw this in a dream. Later, he was shocked to learn that his dream really happened. Otherwise, we really don't know why they branded her with the mark.
"But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron,"
1 Timothy 4:1-2 WMB

I like how Chelsea turns away to think but doesn't let go of Martin's shirt. She really knows how to handle herself. Martin... not so much.
"Some Gadites joined David in the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains:"
1 Chronicles 12:8 WMB

It seems more like Chelsea just doesn't give Martin a chance to answer. What answers would he give anyway. Martin is just starting to figure things out anyway. He could tell her that he is Spiritman but would she believe him?
"and they began saying to him, “By what authority do you do these things? Or who gave you this authority to do these things?” Yeshua said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. The immersion of Yochanan—was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me.”
Mark 11:28-30 WMB

Finally Martin has had enough of abuse from Chelsea and answers back. He wants answers as much as she does.
"For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor; if you don’t oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don’t shed innocent blood in this place, and don’t walk after other gods to your own hurt; then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even forever more."
Jeremiah 7:5-7 WMB

Hello! My name is Amanda. I am a teenager, an aspiring Christian author, and a hopeless superhero addict. I just wanted to thank you two for writing those books. Their message came to me at a time when I needed it. They gave me hope. Keep writing and never give up.
