The Spiritman Update can be read like a devotional. It follows the comics panel by panel mixed with commentary from the creators and a dose of scripture.

Spiritman Daily Dose 234

The angry woman is Rita. She doesn't want people to get away from the cracked and crumbling skyscraper. We haven't learned much about her yet. We just know that she is one of the underlings of the main villain.
"For he shall look down from his holy height, from the heavens the Lord will gaze on the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoner, to free those who are doomed to die; that people may recount the Lord ’s fame in Zion, and the praise of him in Jerusalem, when the nations are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to worship the Lord."
Psalm 102:19-22 OEB

The dialogue balloons sort of float through all 3 of these panels tying them together. Rita, the angry lady, is challenging Martin to be the first to escape from the skyscraper prison.
"It was necessary that the message of God should be told to you first; but, since you reject it and reckon yourselves not worthy of the eternal life – we turn to the Gentiles!"
Acts 13:46 OEB

So these characters don't really mingle or otherwise get along outside of Martin's dream. But in Martin's head... it makes sense.
"and they may yet come to a sober mind, and escape from the devil’s net, when captured by the Lord’s servant to do the will of God. "
2 Timothy 2:26 OEB

When I initially drew this panel I had the camera facing out away from the building. There were people in the foreground reaching out to Martin as he fell away from them. The problem was I didn't feel like it gave the viewer a sense of just how over the edge Martin was. So I redrew the panel and ended up with this.
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in his good time, laying all your anxieties on him, for he makes you his care."

Hello! My name is Amanda. I am a teenager, an aspiring Christian author, and a hopeless superhero addict. I just wanted to thank you two for writing those books. Their message came to me at a time when I needed it. They gave me hope. Keep writing and never give up.
