The Spiritman Update can be read like a devotional. It follows the comics panel by panel mixed with commentary from the creators and a dose of scripture.

Meanwhile, at the villain's lair... wait, what? This looks like a normal downtown storefront. Our thinking was that the villains would hide in a normal place. Be patient until tomorrow.
"This is the joyous city that lived carelessly, that said in her heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she has become a desolation, a place for animals to lie down in! Everyone who passes by her will hiss and shake their fists."
Zephaniah 2:15 WMB

Wait for it... the villains with their spirits of the air. Scott once told me, though he will deny it to this day (lol), that I should add skulls in the background of some of the images to illustrate the "spiritual forces of wickedness" that is talked about in Ephesians. I had not done that in the original pencils but added it later during inking. So... here is the inked version of this panel.
"and said, "You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?"
Acts 13:10 WMB

The villains reveal a bit of their plan. Oh yeah, has it occurred to anyone yet... the villains have just acknowledged that Martin's dream was not just a dream?
"It shall happen that instead of sweet spices, there shall be rottenness; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of well set hair, baldness; instead of a robe, a wearing of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty."
Isaiah 3:24 WMB

We have been calling the main bad guy "Shadowy Figure." Though I don't think the title ever actually appears in the comic. His eyes are shadowy. And the place he works from is a bit shadowy. When we were thinking about the villains lair I imagined a mixture of office, organized crime and church.
"Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth? Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand? As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages, so I am made to possess months of misery, wearisome nights are appointed to me."
Job 7:1-3 WMB

Hello! My name is Amanda. I am a teenager, an aspiring Christian author, and a hopeless superhero addict. I just wanted to thank you two for writing those books. Their message came to me at a time when I needed it. They gave me hope. Keep writing and never give up.
