The Spiritman Update can be read like a devotional. It follows the comics panel by panel mixed with commentary from the creators and a dose of scripture.

Spiritman Daily Dose 35

Still in my slightly skewed panel shape mode. That is why there is so much white space around the bottom and right. Martin is in the house with his parents but nobody is really present emotionally. The parents remain distant.
"His memory will perish from the earth. He will have no name in the street."
Job 18:17 WMB
Spiritman Daily Dose 36

One thing I was thinking when I illustrated this scene is that each character will avoid making eye contact with the other characters.
"For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention."
Job 33:14 WMB
Spiritman Daily Dose 37

Let's see... where were we? Oh yeah, "If you care about someone, aren't you suppose to set aside your other concerns..."
"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you."
1 Peter 5:6-7 WMB
Spiritman Daily Dose 38

This is the first time Martin's dad looks up to make eye contact with Martin.
"Turning to the disciples, he said, 'All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him."
Luke 10:22 WMB
Spiritman Daily Dose 39

Martin's dad has not spoken yet during this scene... that's odd.
"When once the master of the house has risen up and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ then he will answer and tell you, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from."
Luke 13:25 WMB
Spiritman Daily Dose 40

Martin's dad is tired of being bothered by... Martin.
"For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was."
James 1:23-24 WMB
Spiritman Daily Dose 41

Martin is still in prayer as his family leaves him alone in the kitchen. Martin's big struggle right now is to find a point to his life... to feel useful and find belonging.
"I love you, LORD, my strength."
Psalm 18:1 WMB

Hello! My name is Amanda. I am a teenager, an aspiring Christian author, and a hopeless superhero addict. I just wanted to thank you two for writing those books. Their message came to me at a time when I needed it. They gave me hope. Keep writing and never give up.
