The Spiritman Update can be read like a devotional. It follows the comics panel by panel mixed with commentary from the creators and a dose of scripture.

"Come on God, what's up with that?" Ever try praying that way? I know that I have. God knows when we are frustrated. Why not just be honest?
"In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered."
Romans 8:26 WMB

Mountains and valleys. Cameron is excited while Martin is deep in thought. Scott once told me that he really connected with this series of panels. He was just feeling a little down, just like Martin. Ever get frustrated wondering where God is?
"...but those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31 WMB

Cameron seems to be talking about things that are completely unrelated to what Martin is thinking. Yet a glimmer of truth speaks through Cameron's words, "have patience."
"Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD."
Psalm 27:14 WMB

"God speaks through a video game? How do we know when God is speaking to us? This is a huge question. I don't have a total answer for it but here is some great counsel from scripture.
"For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed; Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword."
Job 33:14-18 WMB

Martin waited for God to do something. He was not disappointed.
"But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
2 Peter 3:8-9 WMB

"Can I have your fries?" What else is there to say when someone abruptly leaves the scene. Cameron is here for comic relief. He contrasts Martin's introspective nature. It will be interesting to read further as his character develops into something more.
"I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke."
Job 12:4 WMB

Hello! My name is Amanda. I am a teenager, an aspiring Christian author, and a hopeless superhero addict. I just wanted to thank you two for writing those books. Their message came to me at a time when I needed it. They gave me hope. Keep writing and never give up.
