Martin apologizes for his impatience. Anyone ever do that? I often ask for a situation to be different, only to find out later that God had me in that situation for a reason. Hard to see until it is completed.

Martin confesses that he has a hard time seeing past the mess... a hard time seeing God instead. I can relate to Martin in that. It's kind of like the ability to see God instead of the mess is a super power.
"Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

Whew. Martin sure likes to think a lot. Scott does a great job of handling spiritual insights. It really is a hard thing to write about and not be completely sappy and preachy. Scott does it well. A lot of the students in this image have tattoos. We are using tattooing and branding as symbols for belonging. That doesn't mean that tattoos are bad or that everyone who has a tattoo got theirs for the sake of belonging. It's just a device we are using in the story because the bible actually uses a similar device.

Got to fill the void. I decided to reveal this panel a little at a time because there is just so much value in what Martin is thinking. He is realizing how people will scramble to find anything that will fill the void where God should be.

If you have been following the comic for a while you have seen Martin walk through the dark, chaotic tunnel of a school hallway. Now he has emerged on the other end with the realization that he must choose to see God instead of the darkness... kind of like a superpower.
