The Spiritman Update can be read like a devotional. It follows the comics panel by panel mixed with commentary from the creators and a dose of scripture.

Careful how you finish that sentence. In whose name would he be asking? And why is he shocked?... ok, a guy wearing armor and holding a shield is a little out of the ordinary. Good thing that this is a comic book.
"Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

This is a bad predicament for Chelsea. I'm not sure what she expects to accomplish by holding up her hands... though it is a natural response. Looks like Spiritman is getting ready to do something.
"Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the noisy crowd of the ones doing evil; who sharpen their tongue like a sword, and aim their arrows, deadly words"
Psalm 64:2-4 WMB

Bullets did not work against Spiritman so Carlos turned the gun toward Chelsea then... PHTOOOM! Why throw the sword and not the shield? There is a reason for it that gets explained in issue 2. I will not spoil it for you.
"His feet were like burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a furnace. His voice was like the voice of many waters. He had seven stars in his right hand. Out of his mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest."
Revelation 1:15-16 WMB

No sound effects or words in this one. I imagined the ringing sound of the explosion from the previous panel continues in this panel. That should be expressed more in the panel. I will work at that when this panel is inked and colored. Still, I'm happy with the figures. Chelsea's expression is intense.
He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.”
"Behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?"
1 Kings 19:11-13 WMB

Watch out Martin! Don't see him in this picture. Hopefully he is staying out of the way. Again, I went with a wonky panel shape to communicate the intense drama of the moment.
"above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one."
Ephesians 6:16 WMB

BLAM! Carlos makes his retreat. Where is Frieda? Carlos could use some backup. Then again, I shouldn't be cheering for the bad guys.
"May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed. They shall turn back, they shall be disgraced suddenly."
Psalm 6:10 WMB

Hello! My name is Amanda. I am a teenager, an aspiring Christian author, and a hopeless superhero addict. I just wanted to thank you two for writing those books. Their message came to me at a time when I needed it. They gave me hope. Keep writing and never give up.
